Save the animals

September 1st I visited an animal “shelter” about 2 hours outside of Barcelona. I was warned ahead of time just how horrendous the conditions of the shelter were but what I saw was worse than I could have ever imagined. The cats live in small cages stuffed with 8-9 other cats. Their litter boxes have bugs crawling in them. Mold is growing in their water bowls. Rats run around everywhere. A dead mouse was found in one cage.

On top of this, none of the cats have direct access to medical attention, which they very much need. None of the cats are spayed/neutered upon entry, vaccinated, chipped, or checked for Feline Leukemia. They’re just thrown into whatever cage is closest, regardless of what other cats might be in there.

My goal is to get all these cats to the vet to receive the medical attention they deserve. It costs €80 ($92) to neuter, vaccinate, test for FeLV, and chip a male cat and €90 ($104) for a female cat. I know that this is a lot of money, which is why I am offering a 5x7in portrait of you and your pet— dog, cat, rabbit, bird, whatever!— in exchange for your generosity in getting these poor animals a clean bill of health.
